Whilst travelling in the Peloponnese, central Greece some years ago I heard a nightingale sing. It came out of the darkness and has strayed with me ever since .
Professional quality acrylic paints on either a 10 or 12oz canvas. I like to stretch the canvases myself, select the materials, the wood and canvas and assemble the frames in my studio. Frames are either hardwood or pine, professional stretchers that are stretched with either 100% cotton or a cotton-polyester blend. I like the smooth fine weave of the polycotton.
Handling the materials at this early stage provides my initial connection with the work, a familiarity with the wood and the surface of the weave and marks the beginning of a journey.
