This work was selected for the exhibition of finalists for Redland Art Prize 2014. Living on the edge of the bay, there is a myriad of transformations that occur in nature’s daily cycles of growth and decay. Fascinating patterns and rhythms emerge at the water’s edge which are translated into a silent language of organic form and colour in my work.

Made with love

Professional quality acrylic paints on either a 10 or 12oz canvas.  I like to stretch the canvases myself, select the materials, the wood and canvas and assemble the frames in my studio. Frames are either hardwood or pine,  professional stretchers that are stretched with either 100% cotton or a cotton-polyester blend. I like the smooth fine weave of the polycotton.

Handling the materials at this early stage provides my initial connection with the work, a familiarity with the wood and the surface of the weave and marks the beginning of a journey.
